WALKSCORE® & BIKESCORE™

Walk Score measures the “walkability” of any address. In other words, where can you walk, how far you’ll need to walk and what amenities are within walking distance. For each address, Walk Score analyzes hundreds of walking routes to nearby amenities. Points are awarded based on the distance to amenities in each category. Amenities within a 5-minute walk (.25 miles) are given maximum points.

A “demerit” is used for more distant amenities. No points are given after a 30-minute walk. In addition, Bike Score and Transit Scores add another component to the desirability of a particular home’s location. These scores calculate the bikeability of a property and its proximity to public transportation. As with all things “ranked/scored” in my opinion, Walk Scores should be taken with a grain of salt. As urban centers grow, neighborhoods flourish and bike lanes are added, Walk Scores are not always up to date.

As an avid cyclist and stroller-pusher, I am happy to chat more specifically if you have any neighborhood questions.
