Welcome to 1063 Rose Ave in Oakland located on a gorgeous tree-lined street that borders the city of Piedmont. Just a few blocks from the always dynamic and bustling Piedmont Ave that is chock-full of local fare, schools, award-winning restaurants, grocery and coffee shops.
The tastefully curated exterior has established drought-tolerant landscaping - soaking up the southern sun. The entry is spacious and a wonderful spot to greet neighbors. Inside Rose Ave is where the magic happens. Built in 1941, this 2300 plus sq. ft. (approx. per appraisal), 3 bed 3 bath home on 2 levels has oak flooring throughout. There is a vaulted ceiling in the west-facing living room, with a new gas fireplace (2020). The Mahogany sun deck is located off the living room as well as the primary bedroom. This elevated outside area provides another spot to gather. The kitchen has been recently repainted with trend-right colors. It is large enough to accommodate an eat-in table. Interior access to the garage is found off the kitchen. The garage delivers plenty of additional storage and has a specific power source for an electric vehicle. Off the kitchen, a door leads out to the side yard and the basement workroom.
The layout of Rose consists of 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main floor and in the recently remodeled lower level there is a family room, new bathroom (2020), 3rd bedroom, laundry room plus a large office/sunroom. The main level primary bedroom is expansive, to say the least. Windows face west and east. Ensuite bathroom with stall shower, new stone counter (2020), and Marmoleum flooring. The second bedroom is generously-sized with east-facing windows. The hall bathroom has a shower over tub and tile flooring.
A stairway leads to the lower level and showcases refined high-quality construction. All windows are the new Marvin dual-pane with low E coating - for added energy efficiency. Wide plank engineered Oak wood floors throughout. The third bedroom looks out onto the garden area. This room has a large 3-door wardrobe along the east side. The bathroom on the lower level is modern yet playful - with dual sinks, custom medicine cabinet, Caesarstone counters, and deep Kohler tub. The floor tile has a great pattern and stays warm via a radiant heat feature. Office or what some may call the “sunroom” is epic with nearly floor-to-ceiling west-facing windows. In a time when we can all use a bit more space as well as peace and quiet, this room can fit lots of different uses. Separated from the grand family room via French doors the office also has its own entrance.
The lower yard area gets great western light. Nestled into the topography this spot has plenty of privacy. The orange tree provides the perfect amount of shade. Staged with a dining table and lounge chairs, it beckons one to relax. Living at 1063 Rose Ave is about being a part of something – and for good reason, an ideal neighborhood for getting out and being with neighbors – It is also about plugging into the energy and useful utility of Piedmont Ave.

NEIGHBORHOOD
Not to be confused with Piedmont, a small city in Alameda County, Piedmont Avenue is one long badass sidewalk of restaurants, shops and home bric-a-brac, stacked side by side, with nearly nothing vacant. Choices range from family-friendly, 1894-founded Fentons Creamery, which made a cameo in Pixar’s Up, and the Michelin-starred Commis (2009). Indie films screen at Oakland’s longest running cinema (1917), the Piedmont Theatre, while at the more modern Cato’s Ale House, sports screen on TVs as taps pour craft beers. Despite being part of the big city and having a high density of stores, Piedmont Avenue is very small-town, with a genuine magazine stand (Issues), a sewing shop with lessons (Sew Images) and a tobacconist (Piedmont Tobacconist). It’s a model street.
At the north end of Piedmont Avenue and Pleasant Valley Avenue is the hillside Mountain View Cemetery, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and opened in 1863.[4] It is known for Millionaire's Row, a section high on the hill lined with the ornate mausoleums of wealthy families, including those of Domingo Ghirardelli, Henry J. Kaiser, and Charles Crocker. Other notable people buried in the cemetery include civil rights activists Fred Korematsu and Bobby Hutton, poet Ina Coolbrith, and architect Julia Morgan, who also designed the nearby Chapel of the Chimes. The cemetery was featured prominently in the 2018 movie Blindspotting.[5]
Near the center of the Piedmont Avenue commercial strip, at 4021 Piedmont Ave. is another Julia Morgan-designed building, originally built as the Fred C. Turner Stores. This 1916 red brick building hosts both restaurants and retail, and features glazed terra cotta in the style of the della Robbia family.[2]
Next door, at 4037 Piedmont Ave., is the location of the original Longs Drugs store, which opened in 1938.[6] The building currently hosts a Posh Bagel.
Piedmont Avenue also has "the Bay Area's Book Row," with multiple independent bookstores concentrated within a six-block radius;[7] the Piedmont Theatre, which is the oldest still-operating theater in Oakland (built in 1917);[8] and the 1893 ice cream parlor Fentons Creamery, which was featured in Pixar's 2009 movie Up.[9]
4063 Piedmont Ave., which was formerly a Key System station
At Piedmont Avenue and 41st Street are the Key Route Plaza and what is left of the Key System's C-line station, which was built in 1939. The former station is an angular building with a clock tower, which was restored by a group led by neighborhood activist Michael Lydon.[10] In 2005, with support from the Piedmont Avenue Neighborhood Improvement League, Rocky Riche-Baird painted a mural recognizing the building's history, including the Key System's founder, Francis Marion Smith.[11] However, a large part of the mural was controversially destroyed during renovations in 2014.[12][13]
Kaiser Permanente's flagship hospital campus is located in the southern part of the neighborhood. Nearby is Oak Glen Park, which contains an open-air section of Glen Echo Creek.[15]
